After half an hour of general gastroscopy, swallowing function will be restored and a small amount of water can be consumed. Painless gastroscopy and patients who have had a biopsy can generally drink water after 2 hours.
1. Ordinary gastroscopy: half an hour after the gastroscopy, the pharyngeal anesthesia is still in effect, do not drink water or eat during this period, so as not to accidentally enter the trachea and cause choking or aspiration pneumonia. After half an hour, the numbness and discomfort in the pharynx disappears, and the swallowing function recovers, you can drink a small amount of water.
However, for patients who have had a biopsy, they can only start drinking and eating 2 hours after the examination. Within 1~2d after the examination, you should eat semi-liquid diet, avoid eating raw, cold, hard and stimulating food. Prohibit smoking, drinking alcohol and strong tea and coffee, so as not to induce bleeding of the wound.
2. Painless gastroscopy: after the completion of painless gastroscopy, the patient should go to pillow lying down for more than half an hour, should not leave the bed too early, to be directed to think and recognize no obstacles before leaving the bed. The patient can start to drink and eat only after he is awake for 2h, and depending on the patient’s condition, he can eat liquid, semi-liquid or normal diet.
For patients with upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage and gastric mucosal biopsy, bed rest and prolonged fasting time will be continued according to the condition of the patient. It is recommended to follow the medical advice.
