Kidney deficiency can be categorized into kidney yin deficiency and kidney yang deficiency. Commonly used medicines for treatment include Zuo Gui Wan, Yu Gui Wan and Liu Wei Di Huang Wan.
Zuo Gui Wan consists of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix et Rhizoma Gastrodiae, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, Semen Cuscutae, Cortex Cuscutae, and Achyranthes Bidentatae. It has the efficacy of nourishing the kidney and tonifying the yin, and it can treat kidney yin deficiency by treating night sweating (abnormal sweating after falling asleep, but stopping after waking up), mental fatigue (lack of mental energy), dry mouth, and soreness of waist and knees.
Liu Wei Di Huang Wan is composed of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Poria, Mudan Pi, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum, Rhizoma Coptidis, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, and Rhizoma Zedoariae, which can nourish yin and tonify the kidneys, treating conditions caused by deficiency of kidney yin, such as bone vaporization and tidal fever (a burst of heat, feeling that the heat is penetrating from the inside of the bones to the outside), and dizziness and tinnitus.
