Symptoms and Treatment of Rubella in Children

Rubella in children is categorized into acquired rubella and congenital rubella syndrome, which have different symptoms, and the treatment is based on medication, supplemented by general treatment.
1. Symptoms of rubella:
(1) Acquired rubella: there is no abnormal performance in the incubation period; the prodromal period lasts for 2 days, and the children show no spirit, reluctance to move, and also have dry cough, conjunctival congestion, nosebleed, hemorrhagic rash, and enlarged cervical lymph nodes; the emergence period is characterized by rashes, maculopapular rashes, and enlarged lymph nodes.
(2) Congenital Rubella Syndrome: caused by rubella infection in pregnant women, there will be mental retardation, visual impairment, congenital heart disease and so on.
2. Treatment: medication and general treatment.
(1) Drug treatment: antipyretic drugs such as acetaminophen, used to reduce body temperature and improve pain; cough suppressant drugs such as dextromethorphan, used to improve cough; antidiarrheal drugs such as montelukast for patients with severe diarrhea.
(2) General treatment: Home isolation, adequate rest, ventilation and disinfection should be observed in the living environment, and household items and clothing in close contact should also be disinfected.
