Can pancreatic cancer come back after surgery?

The risk of recurrence of pancreatic cancer after surgery is relatively high. The incidence rate of pancreatic cancer is continuously rising in the world. It is one of the most common malignant tumors in the digestive system, with clinical characteristics such as difficulty in early diagnosis, low surgical resection rate, and easy recurrence and metastasis after surgery. Based on the highly malignant biological behavior of pancreatic cancer, patients are still combined with a high risk of tumor recurrence after surgery, and some patients have local recurrence or distant metastasis in the early postoperative period. Overseas retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 957 postoperative pancreatic cancer patients, and the rate of tumor recurrence during the follow-up period was 88.7%, of which 51.5% of patients developed local recurrence or distant metastasis within 1 year after surgery. In China, we analyzed the data of 3279 patients after pancreatic cancer resection, and the recurrence rate was 45.87% within 9 months after surgery. Therefore, regular postoperative review and close follow-up are extremely important. If pancreatic cancer is suspected or diagnosed, it is recommended to go to regular hospitals for comprehensive assessment of the condition and cooperate with the treatment according to the doctor’s prescription to avoid delaying the condition; after the operation, it is necessary to carry out follow-up checkups according to the doctor’s prescription, and deal with the abnormality positively if there is any.
