36➕3 What to do if your water breaks suddenly

When your water breaks suddenly at 36 weeks plus 3 weeks of pregnancy, you will need to be induced or have a cesarean section to terminate the pregnancy.
If your water breaks suddenly at 36 weeks plus 3 weeks, this is called premature rupture of membranes. It is called premature rupture of membranes because the pregnancy is less than 37 weeks.
At 36 weeks plus 3 weeks of pregnancy, the fetus is basically close to maturity as well, and in this case birth control is no longer recommended. If the membranes have been ruptured for more than 12 hours, antibiotics need to be used appropriately. If there is no clear indication for cesarean section, labor needs to be induced within 2 to 12 hours of rupture of membranes. If there is a clear indication for cesarean section, the pregnancy needs to be terminated promptly by cesarean section.
Premature rupture of membranes in late pregnancy, if not treated in time, may lead to intrauterine infection, fetal distress, and may increase the chances of cesarean section. Pregnant women are advised to go to the hospital immediately for prompt treatment.
