TIPS interventions can last for years

The duration of adherence to the TIPS intervention, known as transjugular intrahepatic portal vein endoprosthetic shunt, is highly dependent on whether or not there are any post-procedure complications, and patients who do not have serious complications can adhere to the procedure for a longer period of time. Transjugular intrahepatic portal vein stent shunt refers to the use of stents, under fluoroscopic guidance from the jugular vein into the hepatic vein, the portal vein and its main branches to establish an artificial shunt channel, to reduce the blood pressure of the hepatic portal vein, to prevent rupture and bleeding of esophagogastric fundal varices, intractable ascites and other diseases. The stent will be used during the procedure and can be used for life if the patient has no serious complications. However, if serious complications occur after the procedure, such as hepatic encephalopathy, pericardial tamponade, or shunt occlusion or stenosis, the duration of stent use will be shortened.
