Huaganghong is the dried outer unripe or nearly ripe pericarp of Huazhou Pomelo or Pomelo, family Rutaceae. It is warm in nature, pungent and bitter in taste, and enters the lung and spleen meridians. It has the efficacy of regulating qi and broadening the middle (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach), drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and resolving phlegm).
Hua Tangerine Hong can be used to treat cough with excessive phlegm, food stagnation (accumulation of food in the stomach due to indigestion) and alcohol, nausea and vomiting, abdominal distension, and chest and epigastric constriction (feeling of fullness and stuffiness in the chest and abdomen).
The adverse effects and contraindications of Huanotanghong are not clear at present.
