Carotid Plaque

Carotid plaque can be registered to neurology or neurosurgery.
Carotid plaque is defined as caused by atherosclerosis. Depending on the patient’s condition, he or she can be referred to neurology or neurosurgery.
1. Neurology: For patients with carotid atherosclerotic plaques who have no obvious symptoms and relatively mild stenosis, and who need medication and lifestyle management, they can go to the Department of Neurology, and at the same time, they can receive systematic treatment for risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia.
2. Neurosurgery: For carotid atherosclerotic plaque patients with serious symptoms or severe stenosis, stenting or surgical treatment is needed, and they can go to neurosurgery department to choose the appropriate treatment plan according to the specific condition of the disease, such as endothelial debridement, stenting and so on.
Carotid plaque is one of the most important causes of cerebral infarction. If diagnosed with carotid atherosclerotic plaque, patients should go to regular hospitals as soon as possible for early intervention and treatment, so as not to lead to adverse consequences.
