What is the difference between choledocholithiasis and gallstones?

Gallstones usually refer to gallbladder stones. The difference between gallbladder stones and choledocholithiasis lies in the site of occurrence, clinical manifestations, and treatment modalities of these two diseases. 1. Site: Gallbladder stones occur in the gallbladder, while choledochal stones occur in the common bile duct, which is anatomically located to the lower left of the gallbladder. 2. Clinical manifestations: most of the patients with gallbladder stones are asymptomatic, but only after the combination of cholecystitis, such as biliary colic, right upper abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, etc., and choledocholithiasis if combined with biliary tract infection, not only will have right upper abdominal pain, but also jaundice, high fever manifestation. 3. Treatment: Gallbladder stones are usually treated by laparoscopic cholecystectomy, while common bile duct stones are usually treated by choledochotomy or endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Choledocholithiasis and gallstones are generally differentiated in clinical diagnosis by imaging, such as performing ultrasound, CT, MRI, and nuclear bile duct water imaging.
