Platelet distribution width 8.13 does not require treatment.
Platelet distribution width is an indicator of the dispersion of platelet volume size and is used to express the coefficient of variation of the measured volume size of individual platelets. The normal range for platelet distribution width is 15% to 17%. A platelet distribution width of 8.13% is considered low.
Platelet distribution width is primarily used to assist in the diagnosis of certain diseases. If it is normal, it suggests high platelet homogeneity, which is a sign of normal hematopoiesis in the bone marrow; if it is high, it suggests disparity in platelet size and the presence of some hematological disorders, such as acute myeloid leukemia, chronic granulomatous leukemia, splenectomy, megaloblastic anemia, and so on.
If it is on the low side, it indicates that the platelet homogeneity is relatively good, with no other clinical significance, and does not require treatment.
