Swollen eyes after waking up may be related to physiological reasons, blepharitis, kidney disease, and so on.
1. Physiological reasons: If patients stay up late for a long time and drink too much water before going to bed, or cry before going to bed, etc., it can lead to water gathering in the eyelids, and then there will be swollen eyes after waking up, which usually doesn’t need any special treatment, and can be relieved after resting.
2. Blepharitis: Blepharitis refers to suppurative inflammation of the eyelid glands. Under the stimulation of inflammation, patients may experience symptoms such as eyelid congestion, swelling and pain.
3. Kidney disease: patients with kidney disease such as nephrotic syndrome, because of low glomerular filtration rate and decreased renal drainage capacity, resulting in water and sodium retention, patients may experience eyelid swelling, which may also be accompanied by lower limb edema.
It is recommended that patients with obvious eye swelling should consult the hospital in time to clarify the cause and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment.
