Can hyperthyroid patients recover from protruding eyes

The protruding eyes of hyperthyroid patients return to normal in some patients and not in others.
Hyperthyroidism, or hyperthyroidism for short, is caused by the thyroid gland itself producing too much thyroid hormone. Some patients will have symptoms of protruding eyes, and the ocular manifestations of patients can be categorized into two types:
1. Simple protruding eyes: it is related to the increased sympathetic excitability caused by the disease itself. The clinical manifestations of the patients are mild protrusion of the eyeball, widening of the eye slit, and reduction of transient vision. After active treatment, the protruding eyes can be normalized in the later stage.
2. Infiltrative proptosis: Graves’ ophthalmopathy. The patient’s eyeball is obviously protruding, exceeding the upper limit of the reference value of eyeball convexity by more than 3 millimeters. After standardized treatment, such patients may be left with a certain degree of protruding eyes.
