There is no specific standard for how long the chondrosarcoma can live after resection, if it is benign, it will not affect the life span, if it is malignant, it is usually 3~5 years.
1. Benign osteochondroma is common in children and adolescents, usually at the age of 10~15 years old. With the growth of age, epiphysis is closed, osteochondroma stops growing, and it is not easy to recur after resection, and it does not affect patients’ life span.
2. If chondrosarcoma develops malignancy and invades into normal bone tissue or surrounding soft tissue, even if it is resected in time after the occurrence of chondrosarcoma, it will be easy to recur after operation. Generally, the younger the age is, the faster the growth rate is, and the older people, due to the slowing down of metabolism, the growth of tumor is also slowed down, and the patient can survive for 3~5 years after operation, and the survival time can be prolonged by the application of chemotherapy, specifically ranging from 5~10 years.
Chondrosarcoma needs regular review after resection and treatment under the guidance of physician.
