Based on medical history, clinical symptoms and specialized examination, it is possible to initially determine whether chronic pharyngitis is present. However, it is extremely difficult to effectively distinguish early symptoms of many systemic diseases from chronic pharyngitis, and it is necessary to take a detailed history and conduct a comprehensive and careful examination of hidden lesions in the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, esophagus, neck and even the whole body, so it is not advisable to make a hasty diagnosis of chronic pharyngitis before ruling out these lesions.
Chronic pharyngitis is a chronic inflammation of the mucous membrane, submucous membrane and lymphatic tissues in the pharynx, usually evolving from repeated episodes of acute pharyngitis. Its common symptoms include pharyngeal discomfort, foreign body sensation, itching, burning, dryness or irritation, and may also be slightly painful.
1. Chronic simple pharyngitis: diffuse congestion of the pharyngeal mucosa, vasodilatation is dark red, and there is sticky secretion attached to the throat.
2. Chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis: if the mucous membrane of the posterior pharyngeal wall is hypertrophic, there are many granular elevated lymphoid follicles in the pharynx, which are scattered or fused into lumps.
3. Atrophic pharyngitis, dry pharyngitis: If the mucosa of the posterior wall of the pharynx is found to be dry, atrophic and thin, pale and shiny, often accompanied by viscous secretions or foul-smelling yellow-brown scabs.
This disease is often differentiated from penile syndrome, hyoid bone syndrome or pharyngeal anisotropy, as well as gammaglobulin deficiency, hypopharyngeal carcinoma and tonsil carcinoma and many other diseases. Most of these diseases have symptoms similar to pharyngitis or coexist with pharyngitis due to secondary infections. They should be examined in detail and carefully identified or excluded.
When chronic pharyngitis is suspected, it is necessary to actively consult a doctor for systematic examination and clear diagnosis by a specialist.
