Bone metastasis may have no obvious pain in the early stage, and when the disease develops further, it mainly manifests as severe pain.
Bone metastasis is a common and serious complication of advanced tumors, which is mainly seen in spine, ribs, pelvis and proximal bones of limbs, followed by skull, ilium and scapula.
After bone metastasis, the clinical manifestations are accompanied by pain, the nature of pain is mostly soreness, dull pain and acid discomfort, a few for sharp pain, distension, etc., some accompanied by involving pain, mostly persistent fixed pain.
Mechanism of pain produced by bone metastasis: after tumor cells grow in bone plantation, it stimulates osteoclasts to increase their activity, forming osteolytic destruction, causing increased blood calcium level and pain. Tumor invades the periosteum or surrounding soft tissues and secretes some pain transmitters, such as prostaglandins, lactic acid and tumor necrosis factor to cause pain.
Although bone metastasis is an advanced stage of the disease and has a poor prognosis, reasonable treatment still has positive significance for patients. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, surgery, biotherapy and other methods all play an important role in the treatment of bone metastasis.
