Most of the retinal detachment can be treated, and the common treatments include laser treatment, cryotherapy and surgery.
1. Laser treatment: Laser treatment is more suitable for patients with small retinal tears and shallow retinal detachment, in which the retinal tears are closed by laser in order to fix the retina.
2. Cryotherapy: The purpose of cryotherapy is to repair the retinal tear and fix the retina by freezing the retinal tear.
3. Surgery: Retinal detachment mostly requires surgery. Patients can be treated by scleral buckling, vitrectomy and other surgical treatments to reset the retina, which can also be combined with laser treatment or cryotherapy to close the retinal tear.
Most retinal detachments are curable with the above treatments, but more complicated cases require multiple surgeries. Most patients can regain their vision, but some patients with longer retinal detachments have a poorer visual prognosis and may even lose their vision.
It is recommended that patients with retinal detachment seek prompt medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
