As the average life expectancy of human beings increases and the medical level improves, the number of elderly patients with stomach cancer is increasing. It is reported that the incidence of stomach cancer is the first malignant tumor in China, and its incidence rate increases significantly after the age of 40, reaching a peak between the ages of 65 and 80. Why does stomach cancer always come to the elderly silently? It is not only because of the insidious onset of stomach cancer, but also because of the influence of physiological and psychological factors of the elderly themselves. Stomach cancer in the elderly may include vague pain in the upper abdomen, swallowing obstruction, bloating, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. However, these symptoms are not typical and do not necessarily attract the attention of the elderly. In addition, elderly people are slow to respond to the symptoms of stomach cancer, and some of them give up going to hospitals after taking certain drugs to relieve their symptoms, which often leads to delay in diagnosis and treatment. Many elderly people suffer from chronic diseases of multiple organs and often take drugs that irritate the stomach, causing different degrees of gastrointestinal symptoms, which may be mistakenly thought to be caused by drugs, thus easily concealing or confusing the early manifestations of stomach cancer. However, gastric cancer in the elderly is preventable and treatable. Elderly people with upper abdominal pain, especially when accompanied with gastrointestinal symptoms, should pay attention to the existence of gastric cancer and seek medical consultation as soon as possible. However, in view of the late appearance of symptoms and signs in the elderly, the diagnosis cannot be made by clinical manifestations alone, and regular physical examination should be conducted (6 months to 1 year). Thus, early detection, early diagnosis, early surgery and improved survival rate can be achieved.
