What does montelukast do?



Montelukast, or Montelukast Sodium, works for the prophylaxis and long-term treatment of asthma, is good for preventing exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and can be used for allergic rhinitis.

Montelukast Sodium is available in tablets (for adults aged 15 years and above), granules (for children aged 1 year and above), and chewable tablets (for children aged 2-14 years).

1. Action: For the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma. Including the prevention of daytime and nighttime asthma attacks, the treatment of asthma patients sensitive to aspirin and the prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction. It is used to reduce symptoms caused by allergic rhinitis, as well as seasonal allergic rhinitis and perennial allergic rhinitis.

2. Mechanism: Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. Montelukast can effectively inhibit the physiological effects of LTC4, LTD4 and LTE4 binding to CysLT1 receptor without any receptor agonist activity.

3. Contraindications and adverse reactions: Monteleukast is contraindicated in people who are allergic to Monteleukast. Monteleukast can cause nausea, vomiting and other adverse reactions when taken orally, but the symptoms are usually mild.
