What does adefovir cure?

Adefovir treats hepatitis B. It is primarily used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B. It improves patients’ aminotransferase levels, and has been shown to improve elevated aminotransferase levels as well as histologically active liver lesions. It is an oral antiviral drug. Adefovir ester is metabolized in the body to adefovir, an acyclic glycoside analogue of adenosine monophosphate, which can be integrated into the viral DNA to cause DNA strand lengthening and termination, and is able to compete with the natural substrate deoxyadenosine triphosphate to provide antiviral effects in multiple ways. Therefore, clinically adefovir is mainly used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B.
