Cetirizine or loratadine for allergic rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis is characterized by sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion and nasal itching. Cetirizine and loratadine are both antihistamines and belong to the same type of medication, so choose one of them. Cetirizine is a more potent anti-allergy drug, stronger than loratadine, but can also be associated with some drowsiness. In case of allergic rhinitis, patients are advised to prefer loratadine, but if the allergic symptoms are not well controlled, cetirizine can be used instead. In allergic rhinitis, topical glucocorticoid nasal sprays are also needed to improve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
