Allergic rhinitis is a chronic inflammatory reaction disease of the nasal mucosa that occurs in atopic individuals after exposure to allergens. In China, the most common perennial inhaled allergens are house dust mites and dust mites.
The number of patients suffering from allergic rhinitis is increasing year by year. Since it can induce bronchial asthma, sinusitis, nasal polyps, otitis media, etc., or occur simultaneously with allergic conjunctivitis, it causes patients to sneeze, runny nose, itchy nose, itchy eyes, itchy throat, itchy ears and stuffy ears, etc. In severe cases, it can affect patients’ quality of life such as sleep, study, work, social and recreational activities.
Because allergic rhinitis is one of the risk factors for triggering bronchial asthma, active treatment of allergic rhinitis is one of the effective measures to prevent or reduce bronchial asthma. Especially for children with allergic rhinitis, more attention should be paid to avoid the appearance of bronchial asthma.
Precautions for patients with allergic rhinitis: First, try to avoid exposure to allergens. For example, some patients in the north have significantly improved or even disappeared after arriving in the south, so they can change their place of study or work if conditions allow. Second, according to the severity of the patient’s allergic rhinitis, it is necessary to apply antihistamine, anti-leukotriene, nasal spray hormone and other medications. Third, for those who are not satisfied with medication; those with combined bronchial asthma; those with combined persistent cough; and those who have positive reactions to multiple allergens, specific immunotherapy is available, but its period is long, usually taking 3-4 years.
