How to prevent and treat hand, foot and mouth disease

       May-July is the high incidence period of HFMD every year. Since May, a number of HFMD cases have been received one after another, especially after entering June, the number of outpatient cases of children with HFMD has increased. Now that we are in the high incidence period of HFMD, we should pay attention to make our children develop good hygiene habits, do preventive work, and go to regular medical institutions in time once suspected cases are found.  What are the symptoms of HFMD?  Hand, foot and mouth disease is common in the summer and autumn, incubation period is generally 3 to 7 days, there is no obvious prodromal symptoms, most children suddenly onset of disease. Some children have mild sore throat, cough, runny nose, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms in the early stage.  It is understood that hand, foot and mouth disease is a common infectious disease caused by a variety of enteroviruses, mainly infants and young children onset, adults can also be infected. Fever, rash or herpes on the hands, feet and mouth are the main features.  The lesions mainly affect the hands, feet, mouth and buttocks, and children often drool and refuse to eat because of the pain caused by oral herpes. The rash on the hands and feet does not usually show significant itching, and the rash usually resolves within 1 week without leaving scars or hyperpigmentation. The virus can also invade vital organs such as the heart, brain and kidneys, and can lead to fulminant myocarditis, aseptic meningitis and encephalitis.  How is HFMD treated?  At present, for HFMD, traditional Chinese medicine has obvious advantages, and the rest of the treatment is mainly for the treatment of symptoms: 1, physical cooling when fever, oral antipyretic drugs can be taken when the body temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees; 2, oral herpes can be gargled with light salt water or scrub the mouth to keep the mouth clean; 3, hand and foot herpes can be applied externally gentian violet drops, hand and foot papules can be applied externally furnace glycolate lotion.  Note: Prevention of hand, foot and mouth disease is more important than treatment!  During the high incidence of the disease, children should wash their hands with soap or hand sanitizer before and after meals and after going out, refrain from drinking raw water, eating cold or fried and greasy food, and avoid contact with sick children. In addition, parents should wash their hands before touching children, after changing their children’s diapers, and after handling feces, and dispose of the dirt properly.  At the same time, children should not be taken to public places with poor air circulation during the epidemic, and attention should be paid to maintaining household hygiene, frequent ventilation of the living room, and regular drying of clothes and blankets. For children treated at home, do not touch other children, dry or disinfect the children’s clothes, and disinfect the children’s feces in a timely manner; children with minor illnesses do not need to be hospitalized, but should be treated and rested at home to reduce cross-infection. Watermelon, mung beans and bean curd have a good effect of clearing the heat and toxicity of the lung and stomach meridians, and are suitable for eating more in the current season.
