How Pituitary Tumor Prolactinoma is Treated

Pituitary prolactinoma, called PRL tumor and prolactinoma, is a common functional pituitary tumor. If you are diagnosed with pituitary prolactinoma, you need to actively cooperate with doctor’s treatment. Common treatments include medication, surgery, radiation therapy, etc., which should be carried out in accordance with doctor’s instructions.
1. Drug treatment: At present, the drugs with more clinical applications are: ergometrine and bromocriptine, both drugs belong to dopamine agonists, which inhibit the secretion of PRL, thus lowering the serum PRL to normal or close to normal; bromocriptine is better to be taken before going to bed or in the middle of the meal, and due to the difference of the individuals, it should be used systematically under the guidance of the doctor.
2. Surgery: If the patient’s pituitary function meets the criteria for surgery after evaluation, surgical resection of the tumor can be adopted for treatment, and the patient should be followed up for review after the surgery.
3. Radiation therapy: For patients with residual or recurrent disease after surgery, radiation therapy can be used when the effect of drug therapy and surgery is not obvious.
It is recommended that patients with pituitary tumor prolactinoma should go to the hospital in time to diagnose the extent of the disease and actively cooperate with doctors for treatment.
