Are ground glass nodules caused by inflammation benign?

Inflammation-induced PGNs are mostly caused by localized inflammatory tissue exudation, which are benign and have no malignant tendency. Inflammation-induced pemphigoid nodules can be seen in viral pneumonia, mycoplasma pneumonia, pulmonary candidiasis, sporotrichosis, etc. Usually, localized exudate can be gradually absorbed after appropriate anti-infective treatment, and the nodules can be found to be reduced or disappeared in the review of X-ray film or chest CT. However, malignant pemphigoid nodules may coexist with inflammatory pemphigoid nodules. Therefore, it is recommended that the patient undergoes anti-infective treatment for a period of time and then undergoes timely review of imaging examinations to assess the treatment effect. If the nodules do not change significantly or gradually increase in size after a period of time of anti-infective treatment, the malignant possibility should be suspected. It is recommended that patients should go to the hospital as soon as possible to have their condition fully evaluated by a professional doctor and be treated accordingly after the nature of the nodules is clarified.
