Do intestinal polyps have to be removed?

In principle, intestinal polyps do not always need to be removed because they are elevated lesions on the surface of the intestinal mucosa, the cause of which is not entirely clear and may be related to intestinal dysfunction and poor bowel movement, and can be found clinically without any symptoms during physical examination. Common polyps are divided into hyperplastic polyps, inflammatory polyps, as well as adenomatous polyps and misshapen polyps. In general, the first two are not cancerous, while the last two are precancerous lesions, which must be taken seriously, and a small amount of tissue can be examined by pathology during colonoscopy. Because of the painful operation of colonoscopy, once polyps are found, it is recommended to remove them, so as not to increase the pain of patients by repeated colonoscopy.
