Difference between febrile convulsions and epilepsy

Febrile convulsions include those caused by epilepsy and those caused by other reasons such as hypoglycemia and hypocalcemia. Epilepsy and other causes of febrile convulsions are different in terms of etiology, manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment.
1. Causes: Convulsions caused by hypoglycemia and hypocalcemia have low blood glucose and calcium in the blood during the seizure, and the seizure is caused by epileptic discharges in the brain.
2. Manifestation: Seizures may have no consciousness disorder, while other febrile convulsions mostly have consciousness disorder.
3. Diagnosis: Patients with epilepsy can be diagnosed by testing EEG and imaging. Other febrile convulsions can be diagnosed by testing blood glucose levels and electrolyte levels.
4. Treatment: Patients with seizures are often treated with antiepileptic drugs and surgery. Other febrile convulsions can be terminated by calcium or glucose supplementation according to the test results.
Frequently occurring convulsions, patients are advised to visit the hospital in a timely manner and ask the doctor to help differentiate.
