What are antioxidants?

Antioxidants are a class of drugs that help trap and neutralize free radicals, thereby removing the damage they cause to the body, such as Probucol, Vitamin E, and others. 1. Our body tissues produce oxygen free radicals that trigger an oxidation reaction in the body that can damage our tissues. Antioxidants, on the other hand, can have an antioxidant response. The body’s antioxidants are either self-synthesized or supplied by food, such as vitamins A, C, and E, carotenoids, etc. 2. Commonly used antioxidant drugs in clinic are Probucol, Vitamin E and so on. (1) Probucol: a hydrophobic antioxidant, strong antioxidant effect, into the body distribution of lipoproteins, can slow down a series of atherosclerotic lesions. Clinically, it is mostly used in patients with hypercholesterolemia. (2) Vitamin E: It has strong antioxidant effect and can prevent the oxidative modification of lipoproteins and a series of atherosclerotic lesions caused by it. It is often used in patients with hyperlipidemia and to prevent the occurrence of coronary heart disease.
