Chen Pi is effective in regulating qi and strengthening the spleen (regulating qi and strengthening the spleen), drying dampness and resolving phlegm (removing phlegm from the body by drying dampness). It is used for treating vomiting and hiccups. Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae is mainly used to treat Qi stagnation in the spleen and stomach, vomiting, hiccups, damp phlegm, cough with cold phlegm, and chest paralysis (stuffy pain in the chest). Clinically, Chen Pi is used to treat distension and pain in the epigastrium (abdomen), nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea caused by stagnation of cold and damp spleen and stomach qi in the middle Jiao, and is often used with Cangzhu and Houpu; it is also used to treat distension and pain in the epigastrium caused by stagnation of food stagnation (indigestion of food and stagnation of food in the stomach) and is used with hawthorn and shenqiu. Caution should be exercised in cases of qi deficiency, dry cough due to yin deficiency, vomiting of blood, and those with red tongue and little fluid, and solid internal heat.
