Can adult leukemia be cured?

Acute promyelocytic leukemia (AML), which is part of AML, has a good prognosis and is mostly curable if early death can be avoided. A small proportion of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemias are also curable.

Leukemia is a type of malignant clonal disease of hematopoietic stem progenitor cells. According to the degree of maturation of leukocyte differentiation and natural course of the disease, it is divided into: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, Chronic Lymphoblastic Leukemia and Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia.

1. Acute promyelocytic leukemia in acute myeloid leukemia: the maturity of targeted therapy and apoptosis-inducing therapy, and the positive fusion gene have led to the cure of a portion of acute promyelocytic leukemia using the all-trans retinoic acid + arsenic regimen.

2. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia: induced remission therapy, patients with combined ph+ can be treated with chemotherapy combined with tyrosine kinase inhibitors for targeted therapy, induction therapy. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and so on can make some patients cured.

If the patient has been clearly identified as leukemia, it is recommended that the hematology department conduct relevant examinations such as blood image, bone marrow image, cytochemistry, immunology, chromosome and molecular biology, etc. to clarify the etiology and typing. Under the guidance of specialized physicians, the patient should actively cooperate with the treatment. Medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
