It is not possible to determine whether a 5mm pulmonary nodule found in the lungs will be okay or fine for the rest of its life, and it is necessary to determine the benign or malignant nature of the nodule based on the past medical history, the nature of the nodule, its morphology, its size, its number, and other progression of the nodule. In addition, management measures will also affect their prognosis. 1. When 5mm lung nodules are found, their nature needs to be clarified. Nodules can be formed by many diseases in the lungs, and the benign ones include inflammatory pseudotumor, misshapen tumor, tuberculosis ball, fungal infection, and sclerosing pneumocytoma, etc.; and the malignant ones may be primary lung cancer or metastatic carcinoma in the lungs. Of course, some benign lesions may be transformed into malignant after a long period of time. The prognosis is good if the nodule is benign and poor if it is malignant. 2. If you have 5mm lung nodules, 80%-90% of them are benign lesions, so you don’t need to be particularly nervous for the time being, but you should not pay attention to them, and you need to go to the hospital every six months or so for a regular review of chest CT to observe the changes of the nodules. If the results of repeated examinations show no significant changes in the shape, size and number of lung nodules, the possibility of benign nodules is considered high, and regular examinations should be continued. 3. If there are obvious changes in the shape, size and number of nodules in a short period of time, the possibility of malignant nodules should be excluded, and further examination is needed to confirm the diagnosis. If 5mm nodules are found in the lungs, the nature of the nodules should be clarified, and regular review should be conducted to observe the changes, and if necessary, surgical resection should be performed.
