Can appendicular stumpitis heal on its own?

Appendiceal stump inflammation does not heal on its own. It is one of the post appendectomy complications that should be treated with another surgery to remove the appendiceal stump. Appendicitis is one of the complications that may occur after appendectomy in patients with appendicitis. During surgery, if the retained portion of the appendix stump is too long, more than 1 cm, or if there are still fecal stones left in the intestine, the appendiceal stump may become inflamed after surgery. Other rare causes of appendiceal stump inflammation include unsuccessful intraoperative removal of the diseased appendix, resulting in recurrence of inflammation. The clinical presentation of appendiceal stump inflammation remains that of appendicitis. If appendiceal stump inflammation occurs after surgery, the first step is to perform a barium enema fluoroscopy to clarify the diagnosis, and after the diagnosis is clear, the appendiceal stump should be surgically removed again.
