Thrombocytopenia and anaemia are two different concepts, but they are often combined. For example, anaemia may occur in patients with long-term chronic bleeding caused by thrombocytopenia, and in some patients with anaemia caused by a lack of haematopoietic material. In some patients with haematological disorders or hypersplenism, thrombocytopenia and anaemia are also often found together.
