How soon can tuberculosis be cured

How long it takes to cure tuberculosis depends mainly on the severity of the patient’s infection, his or her own immune status, and sensitivity to antibiotics. Usually, patients with TB can be cured in 6-9 months if they are treated according to the principles of early, combined, regular, moderate and full course. However, for patients with drug-resistant TB, the course of treatment is usually longer, and it may take 18-24 months to achieve complete cure, and a few patients may not even be cured. If a patient with TB is combined with TB meningitis or multiple sites of TB, the course of treatment is also relatively long, taking at least about 1 year. Therefore, treatment for TB needs to be decided on a patient-by-patient basis. If the course of antibiotics is not enough, it may lead to a relapse of TB or even to drug resistance, and then the treatment will take longer.
