Diagnosis and treatment of cataracts

Cataract is a common and major blinding eye disease. Under normal conditions, the lens is transparent and light passes through it and some refractive interstitium to reach the retina so that people can see objects clearly. Once the lens becomes cloudy for some reason, it will prevent light from entering the eye and reaching the retina, making it difficult for people to see.

When the cataract is obvious, it can be manifested as a milky white color behind the pupil area of the diseased eye, and the degree of vision is related to the degree of cataract.

For early stage cataract or those who are not allowed to have surgery due to physical condition, they can try eye drops such as cataract stop, eye barrier net, cataract, etc., and take internal eye barrier, vitamin B2, C, E, etc.

Second, surgery can be considered for patients with intermediate or late stage (a) senile cataract cataract reaches mature or near mature stage, with visual acuity below 4.0 (0.1), good basic visual function (5m light perception, light localization, color vision), or normal retinal function examination.

(b) Complicated cataracts are first treated for the primary eye disease or systemic disease causing cataract, and surgery is considered only when inflammation is controlled and the condition is stable without contraindications to surgery.

(c) Traumatic cataracts should be operated early except for those with post-traumatic inflammation or intraocular foreign bodies soon after removal.

(d) For congenital cataracts such as total cataract in both eyes, surgery should be performed early to prevent amblyopia from occurring. For incomplete cataracts that still have some visual acuity and do not affect the activities of children, surgery can be postponed until after 5-6 years of age. If the visual acuity is lower than 4.3 (0.2), which affects their education, the surgery can be performed earlier.

(E) Postoperative vision correction with lenses, contact lenses, for corneal surface lens surgery, and also feasible IOL implantation (combined cataract extracapsular extraction or second stage surgery)
