Pure ground-glass nodules are not scary if they are benign, but if they are malignant, they need to be taken seriously. Pure ground-glass nodules are a kind of imaging manifestation, the specific pathological nature, according to the patient’s accompanying clinical manifestations, as well as laboratory and pathological test results, to carry on a comprehensive analysis and judgment, most of them are caused by benign diseases. Lung nodules can be categorized into solid nodules, pure ground-glass nodules and mixed ground-glass nodules with both ground-glass and solid components according to their density. The risk of malignancy is higher for pure ground-glass nodules than for solid nodules and lower than for mixed ground-glass nodules, at about 18%. The majority of pure ground glass nodules are due to benign diseases such as inflammation, tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, rheumatoid, etc. in the lungs, but there is also some risk that they are due to malignant tumors such as bronchopulmonary carcinoma and lung metastases. If pure ground-glass nodules are found in the lungs, it is recommended that the patient should go to a regular hospital in time for a comprehensive assessment of the malignant risk of the nodules based on the size, morphology and other characteristics of the nodules, and follow the doctor’s instructions for further examination and treatment.
