Slow pulse may be due to physiologic reasons, atrioventricular block, sick sinus node syndrome and hypothyroidism.
1. Physiological reasons: healthy people in sleep or quiet state, there will be a slow pulse phenomenon, athletes’ pulse is slower than normal, at this time the human body did not feel uncomfortable, after the activity of the pulse rate can be increased to more than 60 beats / minute, this situation is normal, do not need to worry.
2. Atrioventricular block: A variety of reasons, such as dilated cardiomyopathy and other causes of atrial to ventricular signaling pathway damage or interference, so that the conduction slowed down or interrupted, causing “atrioventricular block”, which can be manifested as a slow pulse.
3. Sick sinus node syndrome: A variety of factors such as coronary artery disease cause damage to the sinus node, resulting in abnormal sinus node signaling or conduction, which ultimately leads to a slow pulse.
4. Hypothyroidism: Insufficient synthesis or reduced secretion of thyroid hormones can lead to hypothyroidism, causing generalized hypometabolism, which can be manifested as a slow pulse.
If the patient’s pulse slows down repeatedly and he/she feels dizziness, palpitations and other discomforts, he/she needs to go to the hospital in time to avoid fainting and other serious situations.
