What is the main test for lumbar puncture in Guillain-Barre?

Patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome have a lumbar puncture to check the number of proteins and cells in the cerebrospinal fluid. The typical cerebrospinal fluid in patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome is characterized by the phenomenon of protein and cell separation, which is mainly manifested by a significant increase in protein and a normal cell count, and the abnormalities usually begin to appear in the second week after the onset of the disease. The disease is a kind of polyneuritis caused by viral infection. Patients may develop fever, sensory impairment or motor dysfunction of the extremities, and in severe cases, the respiratory muscles may be involved, causing respiratory muscle paralysis, leading to respiratory failure and death of the patient, and its diagnosis is mainly based on the patient’s symptoms, signs and lumbar cerebrospinal fluid examination.
