How to choose breast reconstruction?

In recent years, the surgical treatment of breast cancer has undergone a radical change. The goal of breast cancer surgery has changed from merely achieving the goal of treatment to ensuring not only the safety of treatment, but also the quality of life of patients after surgery. The loss of breast caused by traditional radical breast cancer surgery not only results in the loss of physiological functions of the patient’s body, but also deprives the patient of the so-called “symbol of femininity”, resulting in low self-esteem and great psychological burden. In order to provide patients with a better quality of life and eliminate their sense of inferiority, breast surgeons have been exploring breast reconstruction in recent years. Breast reconstruction methods are mainly divided into two categories: autologous tissue reconstruction and prosthetic reconstruction. Autologous tissue breast reconstruction refers to the filling of breast defects with autologous tissue; prosthetic reconstruction, as the name implies, means replacing the original breast tissue with silicone implants. Autologous tissue reconstruction requires taking tissues from other parts of the body for breast reconstruction, which will increase the trauma of the donor area and increase the wound. Therefore, in recent years, prosthetic reconstruction has rapidly emerged as the main means of reconstruction for breast cancer patients. Of course, there are complications associated with breast reconstruction, such as contracture, displacement, infection, etc. In serious cases, the implants need to be removed, and the most serious complication is severe rejection, but the incidence is low. As doctors, we not only want our patients to have the length of life, but also the width of life, and hope that every breast cancer patient will not be a “young grandmother” anymore!
