The vast majority of hard bumps in the armpit do not require excisional surgery. This is because hard bumps in the armpit, clinically speaking, are seen in the majority of female patients by disease, due to impaired lymphatic return caused by cystic hyperplasia of the breast. This is usually accompanied by breast swelling and discomfort at the onset of menstruation, or even breast lump formation, as well as enlarged axillary lymph nodes with painful and uncomfortable symptoms. Generally speaking, for reactive lymph nodes in the armpit caused by mastocytosis, conservative treatment such as draining the liver and Qi is usually used to obtain relief or even cure of the symptoms. In addition, very few patients with hard bumps in the armpit may have sebaceous cysts, and if they are enlarged or even infected, surgery is usually recommended to remove them.
