A thyroid nuclear scan is a more routine test that costs approximately$208. The thyroid gland is an important immune organ that is very sensitive to iodine substances and has a strong ability to take up and concentrate iodine. Using the above principle, a machine can be used to scan the thyroid gland by injecting or orally taking a certain amount of isotope 131 iodine to obtain an iodine uptake map of the thyroid gland. The map will show the location, size, shape and radiological distribution of the thyroid gland, so that it can be understood whether the thyroid gland is enlarged or ectopic, and how well the enlarged thyroid gland or its nodules absorb and concentrate 131 iodine and how dense they are. This test is often performed in conjunction with a thyroid iodine uptake test, which uses the different nature of the cells in the enlarged thyroid gland and their ability to absorb iodine to make a determination of the enlarged thyroid gland.
