What to do if you have a cold with a lung infection

Cold and lung infections are usually caused by viral infections combined with bacterial infections, which trigger pneumonia. Patients can be treated with antibiotics, antivirals, antipyretics and sputum removers, etc. The medication should be administered under doctor’s supervision. 1. Antibiotics: Sputum culture and drug sensitivity test can be used to find the causative organisms and suitable antibiotics. If the relevant results are not obtained, antibiotic drugs such as penicillin, ampicillin, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, and levofloxacin can be used empirically to treat the disease. 2. Antiviral drugs: There is no specific antiviral drug for the common cold, so antiviral drugs can be left out of the treatment. In case of influenza, antiviral drugs such as oseltamivir can be used for treatment. 3. Antipyretics: Generally, patients with lung infections will have symptoms of fever, which can be cooled down physically by warm water wiping. If the body temperature is higher than 38.5℃, ibuprofen and acetaminophen can be used to reduce the fever. 4. Phlegm chemotherapy: If the patient has cough with a large amount of sputum, Ambroxol can be used to reduce sputum, or inhalation of acetylcysteine solution and other nebulized drugs can be used to reduce sputum treatment. Lung infections can also be caused by other reasons. If lung infections occur, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time and use medicines under the doctor’s guidance to avoid delaying the condition.
