Answer to the press about allergic rhinitis

“An autumn rain, a cold”, a few rains make the whole city autumn is getting stronger.
Many people, in such changes in the nose is particularly sensitive. Wake up early in the morning, just open your eyes, it is explosive Chenopathic sneeze more than, runny water-like snot, nasal congestion, nasal itch, eye itch, throat itch …… suffering.
Attention! This may not be a cold, but allergic rhinitis. Shao Jianmin, Department of Otolaryngology, Jinan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine
This year, the autumn rain came early, the temperature dropped early, allergic rhinitis is particularly fierce.

Allergic rhinitis has been a problem this year
 — Professor Shao Jianmin, chief herbalist of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Jinan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, talks about allergic rhinitis
 Expert Assistant Hu Ke

Fall is here, rhinitis is in full swing
For a patient with allergic rhinitis, his pain is known only to him.
The reporter himself is a patient of allergic rhinitis and knows it well. My nose is unusually sensitive to cold air. Every year, when the autumn breeze comes together, or when cold air arrives and the temperature plummets, I start to feel uncomfortable. I often get up in the morning with an itchy nose and sneeze continuously for several or even a dozen times, and the watery snot flows out involuntarily along with my nostrils, with a snotty nose and a tear, and the table is filled with used Kleenex for a while. A day down the nose was blown red, people are also lethargic, dizzy, headache, no appetite, sleep at night, and even unable to work properly, had to take time off to rest at home. But after a few days, the temperature went up the weather cleared, and the symptoms “miraculously” disappeared, I became a healthy person again, the nose is no different from normal people.
At first, journalists often suffer when the symptoms come, the symptoms disappear “forget the pain”, but so repeatedly, is also suffering. Especially this year, since the autumn cold air frequently, the reporter has been annoyed by this annoying rhinitis early in the day is not good enough.
She said that there are many patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis like the reporter. As the saying goes, “Autumn comes, rhinitis comes.” Every autumn, until the beginning of spring, is the season for allergic rhinitis patients to suffer.
Shao Jianmin said that allergic rhinitis is a common term, the medical name is allergic rhinitis, belongs to the immune category. There are two types of allergic rhinitis, one is seasonal, which occurs in the spring and fall, because the pathogen is mostly pollen, also known as “hay fever”. The other is perennial, that is, it occurs throughout the year.
Allergic rhinitis may seem to be a minor disease, but once it is afflicted, the main clinical manifestations are nasal itching, paroxysmal sneezing, runny nose and nasal congestion, which are usually aggravated in the morning or in the cold. “Hay fever” can be accompanied by itchy eyes, itchy throat and itchy ears. In severe cases, it can also be converted into nasal polyps and sinusitis. Even the eyes can be affected, leading to allergic conjunctivitis, and also itchy ears and throat, leading to otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, etc., which can disrupt life, leading to a lower quality of life and lower work efficiency.

Why allergic rhinitis is so bad this year
As a clinical expert who has worked in ENT for more than 30 years, Professor Shao Jianmin has a deep understanding of allergic rhinitis. The difference in climate conditions from autumn to winter every year is a test for the human body. Since the nasal cavity is responsible for humidifying, warming and purifying the air, the climate change during this period is a test for the nasal cavity. For healthy people, at this time, “I can not move from east to west, north to south wind,” while patients with allergic rhinitis are in tears and pain.
She said that the onset of allergic rhinitis varies from year to year due to differences in seasons and the surrounding environment. The difference between this year’s allergic rhinitis and previous years can be said to be twofold: first, the incidence is high; second, the degree of performance is heavy.
According to Prof. Shao Jianmin’s rough statistics: the incidence rate this year is 30% more than that of the same period last year, while most of the patients this year are accompanied by obvious symptoms of itchy eyes. She said, we analyze that the early cooling time this year, in addition to the lower temperature than the same period in previous years, coupled with a variety of reasons for the poor air quality, are the reasons to aggravate allergic rhinitis.
Professor Shao also has a deeper clinical experience that more and more children are suffering from allergic rhinitis.
She said that most rhinitis patients lack awareness of allergic rhinitis. Many patients often treat allergic rhinitis as a cold at the beginning of the disease and take anti-cold medication on their own, especially many children. “Parents often overlook a detail that most of these children have sneezing, runny nose and nasal congestion symptoms, but the disease comes and goes quickly, but often recurs. In fact, this is likely to be allergic rhinitis.” Shao emphasized. When a child has cold symptoms repeatedly multiple times a week or month when the seasons change and the weather changes frequently, it’s best to visit an ENT. It may be better to treat them.
Professor Shao reminds that the better the hygiene conditions of children before the age of 3, the more likely they are to get allergic rhinitis. before the age of 3, children’s own immune system is not well developed and must be constantly strengthened by exposure to a large number of external antigens. The body’s immune system has a recognition system, for regular contact with allergens, the body can recognize and treat it as a “friend”, at this time there are antibodies in the body will not and antigen allergic reactions; for some infrequent contact with allergens, the body’s antibodies do not recognize, they are judged to be ” enemy” and produce allergic reactions.

How Chinese medicine improves the allergic state of the human body
Professor Shao explained in detail the Chinese and Western medicine pathology of allergic rhinitis, and by extension, the prevention and treatment of the disease. She said that allergic rhinitis, also known as “hay fever”, is characterized by itchy nose, sneezing and clear snot, as well as itchy eyes, itchy upper chamber and itchy ears. Allergic rhinitis is just a manifestation of allergic body in the nose. Allergic body manifestation in the skin is called hives; manifestation in the airways is called asthma; manifestation in the intestines is called allergic enteritis. Although the location and manifestation of the disease are different, the substance is the same, and they are all caused by allergies. Among them, allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma are most closely related and often trigger each other, so treating allergic rhinitis is the key to preventing asthma.
Allergic rhinitis belongs to the congested nose in Chinese medicine, also known as Jin Knock Nai Ming. This disease is not related to bacteria and viruses and is considered a non-infectious disease. It is caused by physical factors, because the body’s function is reduced, i.e., the lungs are weak, resulting in over-sensitivity to external stimuli, so taking antibiotics is ineffective. In Chinese medicine, all the above mentioned drugs are considered to be the treatment of the symptoms, while the treatment of the root cause is to improve the allergic state of the body so that the body is not sensitive to allergens and thus no longer has allergic reactions, in order to achieve clinical healing.
TCM treats allergic rhinitis at its root by regulating the body’s constitution through internal and external treatments to restore the body to a normal balance. Chinese medicine believes that allergic rhinitis occurs due to the imbalance of yin and yang in the body, mainly due to qi deficiency or yang deficiency. Depending on the degree, there are three types of allergic rhinitis: Lung-Qi deficiency due to repeated colds that are not cured; Spleen-Qi deficiency due to poor diet and physical and mental overwork; and Kidney deficiency due to congenital deficiency. All three types can be combined. Clinical treatment is selected according to the typology.
Lung Qi deficiency is caused by the inability of Lung Qi to warm the nasal orifices, so it is treated with the method of warming the Lung and dispelling wind, and can be treated with Yu Ping Feng Drops and Anti-Sensitive and Anti-Minimizing Drink. These pure Chinese medicine preparations can be used to adjust the body constitution, improve the function of lung, spleen and kidney, adjust the immune status, and reduce the overreaction to achieve the treatment purpose.
Allergic rhinitis can be treated externally, the reporter asked in curious detail. Shao Jianmin said that the external treatment method of allergic rhinitis includes acupuncture point attachment method, nasal drip therapy and physical therapy. The specific content is as follows: 1. post therapy: this therapy is through the continuous stimulation of drugs on the relevant acupuncture points to achieve the effect of warming the meridians and channels as well as decongesting and opening the orifices, so as to improve the state of lung Qi deficiency and orifice occlusion. The use of these two patches, through the warming of Yang, dispersing cold, relieving dampness and clearing the orifices, can improve or clinically cure nasal itching, sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion and other symptoms. 2. Nasal drops therapy: This therapy is mainly administered through the nasal cavity to achieve the effect of blood activation, swelling and anti-allergy repair. 3. Microwave therapy: This therapy is to eliminate nasal edema directly through electromagnetic waves and improve nasal blood circulation to achieve the purpose of treatment.
The specific method of use is: patch therapy a course of four times, once three points, paste 3, 4 hours, once every 4-7 days, once or twice a year, more than three years of continuous posting. Nasal drops therapy, Huang Lian oil and nasal sensitive water 2 or 3 times a day, 2 or 3 drops each time. Use simultaneously. Microwave therapy once a day for 20 minutes, 5-10 times a course. If the disease manifests more serious, it is better to use Chinese herbal medicine for treatment.
At the end of the interview, Mr. Shao talked about the prevention of allergic rhinitis. 1. strengthen cold exercise, such as cold water nose wash, etc. 2. strengthen physical exercise, such as jogging, etc. 3. ensure rest and add clothes in time. 4. eat a scientific and reasonable light diet, more yams, potatoes, taro, coix, ginger, etc. 5. the disease usually occurs in spring and autumn or worsens in winter, so one month before the onset of the disease can go to the Chinese medicine Ear, nose and throat department for patching, can reduce the attack, generally used for three years, with comprehensive treatment, most patients can improve or cured.
