The IOLs implanted in cataract surgery are polymers with stable material properties and can be considered for lifetime use as long as there are no abnormalities.
Cataract surgery is a routine ophthalmic procedure in which the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear IOL. Currently, the main surgical procedure is cataract ultrasound emulsion aspiration combined with IOL implantation. The surgical incision is only about 2mm, and the surgery causes less damage to the eye. Patients generally have better recovery of vision after surgery, and the IOL can basically be used for life without replacement. However, if the patient’s eye is struck by external forces after surgery and the IOL is displaced, dislodged or broken, or if there is inflammatory stimulation, resulting in material deposition on the surface of the IOL, or if the vision is affected, it is recommended to go to the ophthalmology department of a regular hospital for examination and corresponding treatment.
In addition, after cataract surgery, patients should follow the doctor’s prescription for one month and do not take water in the eye except for eye drops to avoid infection and endophthalmitis, and do not play strenuous sports in the short term to prevent IOL dislocation.
