Who to call if you have a terminal illness

Due to medical development and the human body itself, there are still many diseases that are incurable, and some of them will deteriorate indefinitely, eventually leading to the loss of the patient’s ability to work and take care of himself or herself until death, which is known as terminal illness. Hospitals and doctors are often reluctant to pay too much attention to terminally ill patients. People who have a terminal illness feel more depressed, more cheated and feel that the whole world has turned its back on them. Therefore, once a terminal illness is diagnosed by the hospital, the patient himself and his family will undergo a huge psychological change, and at this time if there is a ray of hope, it is like a life-saving straw for the terminally ill patient. The hospital and doctors are reluctant to pay attention, and the patients themselves have a strong need to be paid attention to, so intentional and unintentional liars will naturally not miss the opportunity. They will take the initiative to find patients, give wonderful promises, or in the unscrupulous media to play tempting advertising, waiting for patients to come to the door. The end is nothing but further deception. After spending a lot of money and effort, the patient dies in remorse of being cheated, leaving his family with even heavier debts. These patients who were once disappointed with the hospital and vowed never to enter the hospital door again and turn to the fraudsters, often still choose the hospital at the end of their lives. These charlatans are no more than Chinese medicine practitioners, therapeutic food experts, qigong or supernatural masters, gods and men who claim to have their own secret recipes. There is an easy way to screen the liars, whoever in your uncertainty and wavering when patting their chests to guarantee the effectiveness of the treatment, all are liars. Since those who say good things are liars, and those who are not are only given the death sentence, is there really nothing else to do for those who are diagnosed with a terminal illness but to wait for death? I don’t want to repeat those “relax and look at the bright side” chicken soup. I just want to give some advice from a medical practice point of view, which is what I would do if I were ever found to be terminally ill. Who should I go to after being diagnosed with a terminal illness? First, pathologists. The practice of clinical medicine includes diagnosis and treatment. A terminal illness reflects the limitations of treatment; in fact, the limitations of diagnosis are more common than treatment. People who are already terminally ill are occasionally missed as healthy; people who are diagnosed as terminally ill are also at risk of being misdiagnosed. In turn, the accuracy of diagnosis is divided into several levels. The least reliable is the clinical diagnosis, in which the doctor diagnoses a disease based on the patient’s presentation, as opposed to previous experience and cases documented in textbooks, and whichever disease is most similar. Some clinical diagnoses are made with reference to imaging and laboratory results, which are somewhat more reliable than relying solely on patient performance. However, this evidence is also indirect. For example, imaging, although you can see a mass and understand the size and shape of the mass, at the end of the day that is also a silhouette. You can’t be sure whether a silhouette turns around and then is a Lin Qingxia or a Ruhua. The most advanced is generally considered to be the pathological diagnosis, which is derived by taking the lesion under the microscope and observing the basic building block of the human body: the cell. Some people think that there is a final diagnosis above the pathological diagnosis, but in fact it is a revised diagnosis after the pathological misdiagnosis. Because pathology pictures are also observed by people, mistakes can be made, but the chance of making mistakes is much smaller than in clinical diagnosis. So but the pathological diagnosis is generally considered to be the definitive diagnosis, the gold standard. So if you are diagnosed with a terminal disease, it is best to get a pathological diagnosis. Cancer, in particular, can never be truly determined until a pathological diagnosis is obtained. Every day, patients who are initially suspected to be terminally ill are proven to be benign, and those who are initially diagnosed as terminally ill must seek more confirmation. Second, a professional doctor who is fluent in specialized English. Some people may be angry: what does English have to do with curing a disease? Show off your good English? Due to the unification of teaching materials and smooth communication, the practitioners of modern medicine basically tend to be consistent in their evaluation of the effectiveness of disease treatment. In other words, it is very unlikely that a patient who has been sentenced to death in a county hospital will have his sentence changed in a large general hospital in the north. However, we still cannot exclude the influence of slow knowledge update and negative attitude of some doctors. This is the time to turn to authoritative opinion, the so-called authoritative opinion is the opinion accepted by the widest range of professionals, often from the guidelines developed by various industry societies. After all, the opportunity to consult nationally recognized experts in person or by phone is not available to everyone. Even renowned experts have to refer to professional guidelines. In contrast, it is much better to find a professional doctor who is proficient in professional English. Basically every tertiary care hospital in China has so many in their departments, and in the better ones, English is already a basic skill. These people have the ability to review and read the latest international guidelines, and can find more reliable treatment advice and prognosis. So why does it have to be in English, can’t Chinese guidelines work? Generally speaking, most of the domestic guidelines are formulated with reference to foreign guidelines, and at most, some wording is modified according to the national situation. When the experts have read the guidelines, they decide to meet, translate them into English, and discuss them for final publication, often with a long lag. Moreover, now the professional English level of doctors in domestic hospitals is getting higher and higher, some simply feel that translation into Chinese is redundant, so for some diseases may not be able to find timely information in Chinese. Thirdly, doctors who are responsible for clinical trials of new drugs or new therapies. If the first and second above affirm the opinion of the primary care physician – and for most people the result will be this – then is it just a matter of waiting for death in peace? Not necessarily yet. With advances in medicine, especially advances in molecularly targeted therapies, it is possible that what used to be a terminal disease could slow its progression or even be cured with the advent of new drugs. There are currently many new drugs in clinical trials, if effective, it goes without saying, if not, there is no loss for the terminally ill patients. Because these types of clinical trials all have one thing in common, and that is that they are free. All drugs are free, and many clinical trials have some tests that are also free in order to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. And according to the rules, all participants in the trial, can withdraw from the trial at any time without conditions. This is something that scams under the guise of high technology cannot do, because the purpose of scammers is to make money, no matter what they say or do, it is absolutely impossible to be free. In short, if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness, you still have to go to modern medicine to find that ray of hope here. Apart from that, resorting to any other counterfeit will not do any good except for the fleeting sense of psychological comfort, but rather a waste of time and money. Because most of the fraudsters lack medical common sense, many will also bring further harm to the patient, it is not wrong to say that they are seeking money and killing people.
