Huanglian Shangqing pill and gardenia jinhua pill, there is no such thing as which of these two medicines is effective, only the efficacy of the drug that suits the patient’s condition is good.
Huanglian Shangqing pill is composed of Huanglian, gardenia, forsythia, cranberry and windbreak. It has the efficacy of clearing heat, dispersing wind and relieving pain. It is used for dizziness and brain distension caused by internal heat and fire, tooth pain, mouth and tongue sores, sore throat, earache and tinnitus, constipation, short and red urine (small amount of urine, dark yellow color) and so on.
Gardenia Golden Flower Pill is composed of gardenia, Huanglian, Scutellaria baicalensis, cypress, rhubarb, honeysuckle, Zhimu, and pollen of heaven. It has the efficacy of clearing heat and diarrhea (removing heat and fire from the body), cooling the blood and detoxifying the toxin (referring to the treatment of blood-heat and toxicity). It is used in treating heatiness of the lungs and stomach (the heat evils of the lungs and stomach are very heavy), mouth and tongue sores, swollen and painful gums, redness and dizziness of the eyes, swelling and pain of the throat, and constipation.
Huanglian Shangqing is contraindicated in pregnant women, and is prohibited for use in spleen and stomach hypothermia (weakness and coldness of the spleen and stomach). If there is a need for medication, it is recommended that patients use it under the guidance of a doctor’s diagnosis, and not blindly use it on their own, so as not to cause adverse consequences.
