The middle jiao is the spleen and stomach, and when dampness is in the spleen and stomach, there will be discomfort in the epigastrium (abdomen), eating and drinking, and abnormal bowel movements. Therefore, if dampness in the middle jiao causes discomfort in the epigastrium and stomach, a lack of desire to eat or drink, and sticky stools, it is recommended to go to the hospital and use traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to treat the condition after diagnosis by a physician. The spleen and stomach are the hub of qi, the spleen likes dryness and hates dampness, dampness in the middle Jiao will cause the spleen to be unhealthy, and dampness has the characteristics of being heavy, sticky, and tends to go downward, and dampness obstructing the middle Jiao (dampness obstructing the functions of the spleen and stomach) will result in loss of appetite and sticky stools. If dampness turns into heat, dampness-heat is embedded in the middle, stagnation of qi in the middle jiao of the spleen and stomach, then there is fever, tiredness, abdominal plumpness (abdominal fullness, fullness), anorexia, bitter mouth and sticky mouth, thirst without desire to drink water, dysentery of stools, urination (urine is small in volume and dark yellow in color) and other symptoms. If the spleen is deficient and not transported, and the dampness stops inside, then the color of the face is yellow, fatigue (mental fatigue, physical weakness), epigastric distension and fullness, loose and soft stools, limbs are heavy (limbs are weak and heavy), the tongue is pale and fat, and there are teeth marks on the side.
