How long does it take to be discharged from a schizophrenia hospitalization

How long a schizophrenic patient can be discharged from the hospital requires a case-by-case analysis and cannot be generalized. Treatment of schizophrenia is generally divided into three phases, such as the acute phase, the consolidation phase, and the maintenance phase. The acute phase focuses on rapid control of the patient’s symptoms through medication or other treatments, and generally takes 6-8 weeks. If the patient’s condition is basically controlled, with some recovery of self-awareness and the ability to cooperate with medication, the patient can be considered for discharge. However, after discharge from the hospital, monitoring needs to be strengthened and follow-up treatment needs to be cooperated with at home, maintaining the original dosage or reducing the dosage under the guidance of the doctor for about six months, with the aim of completely controlling the symptoms, and then continuing maintenance with the lowest effective dosage, following the doctor’s advice to adjust the medication, and never adjusting it by oneself. Patients are advised to follow the doctor’s instructions and use the medication regularly, to follow regular follow-ups, to pay attention to regular work and rest, to avoid staying up late, and to refrain from smoking and drinking.
