Is shoulder pain an early symptom of lung cancer?

Shoulder pain is usually not an early symptom of lung cancer, which is usually asymptomatic in the early stage. Patients should have regular physical examination and timely prevention of lung cancer triggering factors, such as avoiding smoking and exposure to heavily polluted environment. Shoulder pain is mostly caused by frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injury or subacromial impingement sign, cervical spondylosis leading to nerve radiating pain. If tumor develops bone metastasis, patients may also develop shoulder pain, which is usually a manifestation of advanced tumor, accompanied by general wasting, decreased appetite, anemia or cachexia. Patients cannot judge whether lung cancer occurs only by symptoms, such as cough, hemoptysis or chest pain or tightness. If there are symptoms of lung cancer, they must go to hospital for examination in time. Even if there is no symptom, for older or high-risk people, CT lung examination must be performed, which can clearly show the tissues and structures of the lung, detect early lung cancer and facilitate timely treatment. Therefore, shoulder pain is not an early symptom of lung cancer, and patients should not take it lightly as there are usually no symptoms in the early stage of lung cancer.
