In order to relieve/reduce the physical discomfort and possible health hazards caused by the disease; to have a more comprehensive grasp of your condition and general condition and to make the best surgical plan; to improve your tolerance of surgery and anesthesia, to safely pass the surgery and to reduce possible complications after surgery; you need to do the following: 1. Please provide a detailed medical history and undergo a comprehensive and systematic physical examination. In particular, history of previous surgeries, history of previous diseases (e.g. hypertension, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes, liver/kidney/lung disease, etc.) and history of accidental injuries (e.g. rib fracture, hemopneumothorax, etc.) are essential to assess your ability to undergo surgery and decide on a surgical plan. 2.Please complete the relevant laboratory tests and instrumental examinations arranged for you so that we can have a more accurate and objective assessment of your disease and health status, and treat any abnormal findings found in a timely manner to correct and adjust them. 3. Please receive the necessary medication to improve your nutritional status, correct anemia, water-electrolyte acidolysis imbalance and enhance immune mechanism. Because malnutrition and physiological dysfunction caused by the disease can affect your ability to tolerate surgery and prognosis. 4. Quit smoking. Because smokers have a significant decrease in respiratory cilia motility; smoking will weaken the cilia’s ability to remove mucus and affect sputum excretion; long-term smoking can significantly reduce lung function, while early smoking cessation can improve and restore the damaged lung function. After quitting smoking, the amount of sputum will be significantly reduced, the cough will be alleviated, the respiratory tract will be greatly cleared, and postoperative respiratory complications will be significantly reduced. You can drink more water or juice, take sugar-free lozenges by mouth, eat more vegetables and fruits, and do more exercises to help quit smoking actively. 5. Respiratory function exercise and training coughing and sputum removal. Doing respiratory function exercise can improve the pressure in the alveoli during expiration, prevent premature closure of small airways, and facilitate the expulsion of alveolar gas; training coughing can help to effectively expel sputum, improve bronchial drainage, and reduce postoperative pulmonary atelectasis, lung infection and other complications. More abdominal breathing exercises, lip contraction breathing exercises and coughing and sputum excretion training should be performed every day. Two-step sputum excretion method is available, take a comfortable position, take 5-6 deep breaths, hold the exhalation for 3-5s, breathe slowly through the mouth, exhale as much as possible (the lower part of the chest or the abdomen should sink), hold the breath after the second inhalation, and then cough out forcefully from the depth of the chest (not from the back of the mouth or throat). 6, practice bed urination and defecation.
