Chronic atrophic gastritis, mostly caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, needs to be treated as prescribed, with standardized medication for about two weeks, such as quadruple therapy. If a complete cure takes several months, some patients can not be cured. The cause of chronic atrophic gastritis is more complex, the most common cause is caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, but also may be caused by the reflux of digestive juices. Chronic atrophic gastritis needs to be treated for the cause, and if there is Helicobacter pylori infection, quadruple therapy is used: proton pump inhibitor (e.g., omeprazole) + two antibiotics (clarithromycin, metronidazole) + a bismuth agent (bismuth potassium citrate). Symptom-specific treatment: e.g. with the gastric motivator mosapride. Usually after 2 weeks of treatment patients can get better results, but for a complete cure it takes months. Most patients need several months to fully recover, and a few severe cases of chronic atrophic gastritis may not respond to conservative treatment and require further treatment. It is recommended to actively seek medical advice and follow the doctor’s instructions for medication and treatment.
